Fall Paddle on the Mon

On Saturday, October 20, 2012, approximately 20 paddlers in canoes and kayaks participated in the “Fall Paddle on the Mon.” The participants paddled from the boat launch at Point Marion Community Park to the Glassworks Boat launch, just downstream of Greensboro. Point Marion Borough Council member Vicki Evans provided a welcome to participants to kick-off the event.

The trip stopped for a lunch break at the Two Rivers Restaurant and Marina in Dilliner, where they enjoyed a brief presentation from Greensboro Elm Street Manager Darlene Urban Garrett and Greensboro Council President Mary Shine on the exciting improvements happening in that town.

This trip was sponsored by the Mon River Town Program, a project of Pennsylvania Environmental Council. Special thanks to the Student Conservation Association, whose River Town Outreach Corps served as safety boaters, and to the local businesses who provided sponsorships- Brass Rail Restaurant, Lounge and Motel; Point Marion Boat Marina; Point Marion Hardware; Kurtyka Enterprises, Inc.; and Friendship Hill Association.

This trip built on the success of the Mon River Sojourn, held this past June, in which over 70 participants paddled from Rices Landing to Fredericktown. We hope to hold additional paddling trips in 2013. If you would like to be added to the contact list for these trips, please email lbaxter@pecpa.org.

  • I am from Point Marion and now live in Maryland where I do paddle once in a while. I would have loved to have been in Point Marion for that paddle.
