The Small Business Association (SBA) provides assistance to small businesses through business financing from local, state, and federal means for an array of different needs. They also offer free technical assistance to small business entrepreneurs at over 1800 locations throughout the US & surrounding territories.
How do they benefit the Mon Valley?
One example of these efforts is evident in Charleroi, PA where Prima Diva owner Daneen Troup, formerly a bank employee is now one of the most accomplished retailers in the area. Within four years this part-time dream turned into a full-time success story through the assistance of the SBA Pittsburgh branch.
District director Kelly Hunt has a special place in her heart for the businesses in the Mon Valley region. “I may serve as the SBA Pittsburgh district director, but, I also am the daughter of a small business owner and am an entrepreneur myself; in fact, I once owned a business right on the Monongahela River in Fredericktown.” She goes on to explain, “ I know first-hand the struggles small business owners face, that’s why I’m especially proud that my team is assisting entrepreneurs in the Mon Valley river towns — because that’s home to me. “
What do they offer?
The SBA offers many opportunities to educate those looking to start or further the prosperity of their calling in the business world. In their latest update they offer services that will take you step by step on how to find an EIN, estimate your starting costs, and how to prepare for a disaster. They also explain how the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013 (NDAA) could affect business owners intending to work in the government field. The SBA offers webinars to educate those interested on the Affordable Health Care Act every Thursday at 2 pm. There is no doubt that Kelly Hunt and her team has an innate skill for advancing small businesses. “Rest assured, each day, I work side-by-side with a staff of dedicated specialists,” says Hunt. “We’re smart, bold and accessible, and ready to point you in the right direction to help turn your ideas from blueprint to fruition.” For more information on their efforts, check out their webpage at https://www.sba.gov/offices/district/pa/pittsburgh.
